StrawberriesWe can all agree about the danger posed to our health from eating foods laced with chemicals.  However, organic foods tend to be more expensive than their carcinogen counterparts.  In fact, depending on where you live, you would need to practically get a second job just to eat like you should.  So, the question becomes, “If I can’t eat everything organic, what needs to be organic versus foods that are okay otherwise?

The decision to buy organic or not is based on foods that have typically been found to be highly contaminated.  In general, the following list of foods represent those which are highly contaminated.  Therefore, these items should be organic. 

BUY ORGANIC

  • Apples
  • Celery
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Collard Greens
  • Cucumbers
  • Grapes
  • Hot Peppers
  • Kale
  • Nectarines
  • Peaches
  • Potatoes (Paleo controversial)
  • Spinach
  • Squash
  • Strawberries
  • Sweet Bell Peppers

The following foods are typically okay on their own and do not require buying organic.

BUY NON-ORGANIC

  • Asparagus
  • Avocados
  • Cabbage
  • Cantaloupe
  • Eggplant
  • Grapefruit
  • Kiwi
  • Mangoes
  • Mushrooms
  • Onions
  • Papayas
  • Pineapple
  • Sweet Corn (not Paleo)
  • Sweet Peas (not Paleo)
  • Sweet Potatoes
